For maintenance technicians: find the false permissive, not a licence
It's 2am, the packaging line is stopped, and the HMI says "Not ready". The program is on a USB stick from the machine builder. It was saved in v33. The plant laptop has v30.
Rungview lets maintenance technicians open a Studio 5000 .ACD or .L5X on their own laptop regardless of which version saved it. Find the output that won't come on, click each of its conditions to see where that tag is set, and follow the chain back to the sensor, fault latch or mode bit that's holding the machine off. It's read-only, so nothing you do can change the running machine.
The night-shift workflow
- Open the project from the USB stick or the shared drive.
- Type the stuck output or HMI status tag into Find tag.
- Jump to the rung that writes it and read its conditions.
- Click each condition tag to see where it's written. Repeat until you hit a physical input or a latched fault.
- Fix the cause on the machine, then reset in the HMI.
What you can't do, by design
Rungview doesn't go online, force bits or download. That keeps it out of your plant's management-of-change process and safe to hand to anyone on the team. When a program change is really needed, it still goes through Studio 5000 and the engineer.
Before the next breakdown
- Keep a copy of every machine's current project on the maintenance laptop.
- Print the routines you troubleshoot most to PDF and keep them by the machine.
- When the OEM sends an update, compare it with the old one so you know what changed.
